Shamanic Drumming Circle

2nd & 4th Monday evenings

7:30 to 9 PM

Over tens of thousands of years, our ancient ancestors all over the world discovered how to maximize human abilities of mind and spirit for healing and problem-solving.

The remarkable system of methods they developed is today known as "shamanism ,"....distinguished by the use of journeys to hidden worlds otherwise mainly known through myth, dream, and near-death experiences. Most commonly, they do this by entering an altered state of consciousness using monotonous percussion sound." Michael Harner Ph.D.

Shamanic drumming is a form of meditation. The circle will generally follow the principles taught by anthropologist Dr. Michael Harner in his book The Way of the Shaman (see also www.shamanicstudies.org for information). As this group will be doing actual journey work each meeting, it may not be appropriate for absolute beginners.

Hosted by Richard and Jennifer Dier as part of the Sepulveda Unitarian-Unitarian Society's adult program. Please contact host (Richard or Jennifer Dier) prior to attending your first meeting so that you know what to expect and what to bring. This is primarily a shared meditation experience, rather than a drop-in drumming session. Richard Dier 818 893-8337

Bring: Blankets/Pads/Pillows for working on floor, drums or rattles (not required), journal, and whatever you need to be comfortable.
