Covenant groups
Sepulveda Unitarian Universalist Society: go to home page

In the spring of 2003, a small group of members, assisted by our minister began training to introduce Covenant Groups to our congregation. Those members worked together for a year in a pilot program, learning the model of covenant groups, and are now facilitating several active covenant groups. We are pleased to tell you more about the groups, and encourage you to become involved in one.

A covenant group is a small group of six to ten people who meet regularly to establish and nurture themselves in their own beloved community. Covenant groups provide an opportunity for group members to build strong relationships with each other and with the larger organization of which the small group is a part.

Covenant groups encourage people to talk, learn, work and play together over time. Members may tell their life stories, offer support, and engage in work to serve the larger community. Covenant groups offer caring affiliate networks, mutual responsibility, leadership opportunities, and a way for people to build and strengthen their communities.

And covenant groups provide a place for spiritual exploration and growth. In an environment where people are encouraged and supported in the sharing of stories, ideas and feelings, they are able to develop spiritually.
