Our mission
As a religious community, the mission of the Sepulveda Unitarian Universalist Society is to nurture personal spiritual growth, to promote social justice, and to improve Earth and its ecology to help guide humanity through the next millennium.
Although we come from diverse backgrounds, we covenant to create a community of acceptance, love, support and trust.
We agree to act responsibly in the interest of the community's well-being by sharing our energy, time, talents, and financial support, and to do so with respect and tolerance.
Who we are and what we do
"The Onion", as we often call ourselves, is democratically governed by its members, who annually elect officers and a policy-making board. Sunday services are a combination of minister led services and frequent lay led services, where the entire congregation joins together to feed our minds, consciences, and spirits by sharing learning, knowledge, wit, and compassion. The children join us at first and then leave to share their own age appropriate classes and activities.
The programs of "the Onion" include forums and guest speakers on topics of current interest as well as Adult Education classes. We host many cultural activities including plays, musical series, coffee houses, and art gallery showings. The building is also available as a rental for special events.
We are an abolitionist congregation
We voted on Nov. 21, 2000 to declare our opposition to the death penalty.
